ARTHUR WRITES A STORY: What makes a story entertaining? That's the question Arthur asks himself when Mr. Ratburn gives a creative writing assignment to the class. When D.W. yawns through Arthur's first story, he worries that his tale isn't exciting enough. Is the setting to humdrum? Maybe he needs to research his subject more thoroughly. With every new angle, Arthur's story takes one more hilarious step further away from his original idea - but is the end result really the tale he wants to tell?
Reviews
...
This collection of six Arthur adventures is read by author/illustrator Marc Brown, a fine narrator whose pleasant voice expresses affection for his delightful characters, from pesky little sister D.W. to Arthur himself. The production includes entertaining sound effects--listeners will hear a puppy's bark and the laughter of friends. Stories are introduced by the Arthur song, familiar to TV-watchers, with a verse synopsizing each story's content. By the end, these songs may seem overly long to some listeners impatient for the upcoming story. All will enjoy the production's episodes, though, which include classic choices such as "Arthur's First Sleepover," "Arthur's Pet Business," and "Arthur's New Puppy." The stories all provide great examples of Brown's gentle humor and empathetic insights into childhood dilemmas. J.C.G. (c) AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
